Preventing PowerPoint File From Corruption

Like any other file, a PowerPoint file (PPT or PPTX) can also get corrupted after various logical crashes. An in most cases, the data saved in the presentation can become inaccessible after the file gets corrupted. To avoid any such corruption issues, it is advisable to follow certain prevention techniques. However, if your presentation has already been corrupted, then you will need to opt for a commercial PowerPoint Recovery utility.

Below are a few prevention techniques to save your PPT file from corruption:

Avoid using removable media:

Recoverable media like, floppy-disk, USB drives, CDs, DVDs, and other recoverable media should not be used for transportation of files as they might be virus-infected. To move files, you should use Windows explorer to copy the presentation to your hard drive.

Turn off 'Allow fast saves' Option

'Allow fast saves' is an option used to save large size PPT files. While the option is time-savvy, it can also corrupt your file. This happens because the option directly appends the changes made in your file.

Always the habit to saving your PPT file

Microsoft PowerPoint does not include any 'auto save every XX minutes' feature. So, you should have the habit of saving your PPT file changes every now and then.
Note: The changes should be made on the PPT file that is saved on your hard drive, not on removable media.

Create Regular/Complete backups

Nothing compares a 'valid backup' when it comes to surmounting data loss. Always have a copy of your backup file saved on more than one location.

Practice good hard drive maintenance

One of the biggest cause for file corruption is bad maintenance of your hard drive. Regularly run an anti-virus, empty Temporary File Folder, defragment your hard drive and run ScanDisk utility.

Zip PPT/PPTX files before sending it another user

Last, but not the least, to prevent corruption while sending the file over is by sending your PPT file in a Zipped format.

However, if you have not followed the above prevention steps and your PPT file has corrupted, then you will need to repair your PPT file using a third-party PPT Recovery utility. Such PPT Recovery tools use effective repair techniques to repair any logically crashed PPT/PPTX file.
